Gettin' Gas

December 22nd, 2009 at 10:33 am

I don't know about all of us, but have you noticed that when you pay for gas in cash or with your card inside the store, you actually get less gas than when you pay as you go at the pump with your card? Try it next time.

Around the last dollar amount, it always slows down. It reduces to a trickle, so you're not really getting as much as you could.

Something to think about. It always annoys me.

If you live in one of the US states, your gas pumps are regularly inspected by the state to verify that they are measuring correctly. The pump slowing down toward the end should not mean that you get less gasoline. It just takes longer to dispense it toward the end....BTW enforcing fairness in weights and measures is one of the oldest functions of state governments. I think people take it for granted.

Joan: In that case, I'd feel comfortable if they checked some of the ones we get here, at least a little more often in Florida. It really does seem like it slows down.

Myth. I worked for an oil pertoleum company. They are all regulated by states to make sure it is the correct amount is dispensed and to track possible emissions, leaks in the seals, people are not being cheated with the amint they purchase, the amount of water in the underground tanks, how the levels are measured insde, dispensing by the delivery trucks etc, etc, etc.

All computerized gas pumps slow down the count as to avoid over spillage at the gas tank or leakage. The dollar amount and the amount of gas dispensed are measured and equal. If not report them to your state/county agency.

In CA they are all tested each year to mae sure each gallon is one gallon.
